THE MULTI-PLANET SURFACE SIMULATOR (MPS2)
The Design of this Simulator (MPS2) will be an Experimental Facility for the Continuous Monitoring of Chemical Processes on Planetary (Sub)Surface.
Current ‘chamber facilities’ commonly fall short in 3 critical aspects: (1) chemical reactions start before the system reaches equilibrium with the chamber conditions, (2) limited access to chemical systems during the course of the reaction, and (3) limited adaptability of one chamber to simulate surface conditions of different planets.
I am designing the Multi-Planetary Surface Simulator (MPS2) for my lab that will solve the above shortcomings. MPS2 will be used to simulate the surface conditions of various planetary bodies of the solar system by manipulating the temperature (T), pressure (P), gas composition (X), relative humidity (RH), and radiation (Rad).
